Green roof designer Lisa Goode is a friend of Tablet whose firm, Goode Green, designed and installed the rooftop meadow at the Crosby Street Hotel, one of our newest New York favorites — as well as a vegetable farm atop a Greenpoint warehouse and a number of other high-profile (and high-design) green-roof projects. We sat down to talk with her about how a personal vision of country life in Manhattan developed into a successful second career.
Maps and guidebooks can only tell you so much about a city’s personality. Our friends at Revel in New York believe that you can get to know a place better by viewing it through the eyes of the characters who live there. They were kind enough to share this video profile of Johnny Iuzzini, a one-time club kid and bartender turned top-notch pastry chef, currently working at Jean Georges in Manhattan under the guidance of the celebrated chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.

Every great culture has its culinary landmarks, those foods that lay out the gastronomic landscape of a nation. But are these the bread and butter of a country’s epicurean legacy? Or are they just footprints along a greater journey that food takes over time? Being an unapologetic travel junkie and food lover, I often ponder such questions, both on my jaunts abroad as well as in my own kitchen as I prepare dishes from around the globe. It’s a fun, tasty way to explore new places and rediscover the foods and places you love.
This week's entry is from Firmin of Brooklyn, NY, USA
Want to share the place you’re seeing? Send us a photo and say where it is.We’ll pick one each week and ask your fellow Global Nomads to guess where. The winner will receive a free copy of our Tablet 10 Magazine.
We know you: you’re true global nomads, infinitely curious and impeccably culturally attuned. But no matter how unflappable, every so often you must have found yourself completely out of your element. Mortified, stumped, at an utter loss, blindsided, with egg on your face, et cetera. We spoke with Alex Calderwood over the summer about the process and inspirations behind the Ace Hotel & Swim Club, in Palm Springs, California, for the latest issue of our Tablet10 magazine.
