Crumpled Cities by Emanuele Pizzolorusso

Unfolding a billboard-sized map amidst urban chaos can be a shameful, painful experience. Thankfully, it’s now one we can avoid, as most corners of the earth have been charted out digitally. But what about when you’re abroad, without smartphone service? Or what if you simply prefer paper over pixels?

The Italian designer Emanuele Pizzolorusso has given an elegant upgrade to the essential travel accessory with his Crumpled City maps. Made with Tyvek® — a kind of plasticy, synthetic paper — they are soft and light, but also wind- and waterproof. Best of all, no folding required. Crumpled maps can be purchased for €12 from Palomar in the UK and for $19 from Ameico in the US.
