Model Muse

Kate Moss On Both Sides of The Atlantic

Kate Moss revolutionized the fashion industry with her waifish figure and rock-chick style sense. And now two major galleries — Danziger Projects in New York and La Galerie De L’instant in Paris — are celebrating her career and its multiple defining moments, with a pair of photography exhibitions.

In the last twenty years, Ms. Moss has walked the runway for the likes of Alexander McQueen and Louis Vuitton, launched a mega-successful clothing line, managed to give rain boots sex appeal and repeatedly hit headlines with her crazy antics. But it seems that no matter what she’s doing, the allure and fascination continue to grow, while her beauty has yet to fade.

The exhibitions will feature many years’ worth of iconic images from some of the world’s most prolific art and fashion photographers — such as Bettina Rheims (who discovered the model when she was just fourteen), Corinne Day and Mario Testino — as well as a number of rarely seen pictures of the surprisingly media-shy star.

From a fresh-faced, ringlet-haired Kate in 1989 to a more mature Moss wearing nothing but a soldier’s tin hat, both shows beautifully depict her evolution from a young, 5-foot-7 girl (who literally lowered the bar for all models) to a sartorial icon of the noughties who has graced over fifty ‘Vogue’ covers and counting.

“The Kate Moss Portfolio and Other Stories” is on view at Danziger Projects until June 30 and “Kate Moss par les plus grands photographes” will be showing at La Gallerie De L’Instant until September 14. – L.S.
