It is easy to be skeptical about perfume. Many reek primarily of celebrity profiteering, and there are far too many options in the first place. It can be hard to distinguish one from the next.
A new store in Buenos Aires, however, presents a solution to those of us in search of a scent with a little spunk. Fueguia is a new “experimental” fragrance boutique and laboratory in the Palermo Viejo district of Buenos Aires. Scent director Julian Bedel creates unique candles, perfumes, and room scents that are based on species of flora native to South America. There are now over twenty different varieties including “Fueguier,” named after the indigenous people Darwin encountered when he first explored Patagonia and “Misiones 43,” made with lemon, nutmeg, vanilla, amber and cedar, inspired by a sixteenth-century Jesuit temple in Paraguay. For those who prefer a more personalized service, Bedel can create a custom scent from any of the 125 different ingredients in the store.
