Rum: for centuries it has inspired adventures in swashbuckling, smuggling, and plank-walking. And so you’d better believe that when Chris Blackwell launched his Blackwell Fine Jamaican Rum in Jamaica only, it spurred some modern-day piracy — Americans were sneaking bottles of ‘black gold’ into their luggage to take back home.

Now the man behind both Island Records (credited with putting the likes of Cat Stevens, U2, Grace Jones, and Bob Marley on the map) and many of Jamaica’s most iconic hotels ( GoldenEye, Jake’s, The Caves and Strawberry Hill) is bringing the good stuff stateside.
Blackwell collaborated with friend and advertising industry guru Richard Kirshenbaum and the producers J. Wray & Nephew of Appleton Estate to achieve the perfect blend: a rum that’s deep and dark but with a soft, well-balanced finish.
While Mr. Blackwell prefers to drink it neat, it’s no secret that rum mixes quite well with others. So, here’s a drink recipe for a GoldenEye — named after, you guessed, the famed resort. As the birthplace of James Bond, the GoldenEye should be made with 007 in mind – shaken, not stirred.
The GoldenEye
3 shots Blackwell Rum
1 shot lime juice
1 shot orange juice
1 shot pineapple juice
2 shots simple syrup
Ice
Combine all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker, and shake. (For a frostier version, throw it all in the blender and blend until smooth.) Garnish with orange or pineapple slices to serve.
