Looking Forward: Autumn

What's Happening This Fall

Fall can be a time to fall back into the rhythms of home. But before you get too comfortable, check out these reasons to travel in October and November.

BERLIN
Festival of Lights
For twelve nights, the city’s streets, landmarks and monuments are dressed up with displays of colorful light.
October 12 – 23

CHICAGO
Open House Chicago
Tour Frank Lloyd Wright house in Rogers Park or any of the approximately 120 other local sites that aren’t typically open to the public as part of the Chicago Architecture Foundation’s Open House Chicago.
October 15 – 16

LOS ANGELES
Decade of Difference Concert
Bill Clinton rocked as president. And he continues to rock as a philanthropist. Lady Gaga, Usher and Bono will honor his foundation’s decade of service with live performances from the Hollywood Bowl.
October 15

CHABLIS
Chablis Wine Festival
During the fourth weekend of October, the town of Chablis will host its annual wine festival, where for a small fee you can sample some of the best whites of the region. On top of that there’s live music, excellent food for noshing, and spectacular scenery.
October 22 – 23

WALLAND
Fox Hunting Opening Meet Weekend at Blackberry Farm
Pull on your boots and tack up for a hunt with the hounds through the countryside, followed by an epic Blackberry-style dinner.
October 28 – 30

NEW YORK
Jane’s Carousel at Brooklyn Bridge
The recent opening of this beautifully restored 1922 carousel (set in a Jean Nouvel–designed pavilion) is the perfect excuse to head to DUMBO’s Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Now open, though winter hours begin November 6

BIG SUR
Big Sur Food & Wine Festival
Compared to other food & wine festivals, Big Sur’s is relatively low-key. But the programing (we like the sound of “Hiking with Stemware”) is great and the location is unbeatable.
November 3 – 5

LONDON
Leonardo da Vinci at the National Gallery
‘Leonardo da Vinci: Painter at the Court of Milan’ is forecast to be this year’s blockbuster for the National Gallery. While most museum exhibits look at Leonardo as an inventor or draughtsman, this one is squarely focused on his talents as a painter.
November 9 -February 5

SAN MINIATO
La Sagra del Tartufo Bianco (White Truffle Fair)
Located between Pisa and Florence, this region of Tuscany produces twenty-five percent of Italy’s white truffles. The ones you’ll taste at La Sagra are as fresh as they get.
November 12 – 26
